Track a finishing media charge through a defined observation period. Reconcile additions, recovered media and deliberate removals before calculating the remaining mass difference per operating hour. The difference is an operational balance that may include loss and measurement effects; it does not automatically establish abrasive wear.
Enter your recorded values, then calculate.
Jintaijin’s media-shape guidance emphasizes wear state and separability. A mass record adds a different observation: how much of a tracked charge is accounted for. Use the same conditioning and weighing method at the beginning and end. Water, compound residue, adhering fines or trapped workpieces can alter recovered mass without representing a change in abrasive material.
The balance is starting mass plus all additions, minus recovered end mass, minus media deliberately removed and logged. Deliberate removal can include screened undersize media that you have weighed. Do not subtract the same removal twice if your recovered figure already includes it. Record spills or escape separately when measured; otherwise they remain part of the unaccounted balance.
Divide the mass difference by actual recorded operating hours for the period. Calendar days and scheduled shift hours are different denominators when the machine is idle. The percent displayed here uses starting charge mass; it is not a constant hourly attrition percentage and is unsuitable for extrapolation without a stable process and repeated observations.
A negative difference indicates that recovered plus removed mass exceeds starting mass plus additions. The tool stops and asks for a record review rather than reporting negative wear. A zero balance is permitted, but it does not prove zero wear: deposits, moisture or measurement uncertainty may conceal material loss. Keep the weighing resolution and conditioning method with the results.
Starting 100 kg, adding 5 kg, recovering 96 kg and logging 3 kg removed leaves 6 kg unaccounted. Over 20 operating hours, that is 0.300 kg per hour. A buyer-entered price of 4 currency units per kg converts the balance to 1.200 units per hour. This example is a method check, not a media-life specification or Jintaijin operating-cost claim.

Retain the exact media name and specification in the mass-balance worksheet. These catalog queries separate wet and dry entries; they do not supply media density, wear rate or a polishing recipe.
